As many centre owners and operators will be aware, there’s a new compliance requirement landing this month — and it applies to every early childhood education and care service.
From 27 February 2026, mandatory child safety training becomes a requirement under the National Law and Regulations for everyone in your service — from your approved provider and nominated supervisors right through to educators, support staff, volunteers, and students.
At KKTC Education, we’ve been closely involved in consultation throughout this process.
We know what’s changing, what authorised officers will be looking for, and the practical steps services need to take now to be ready.
Who needs to complete this training?
This requirement isn’t limited to qualified educators; it applies broadly across your service:
- Approved providers and anyone with management or control
- Nominated supervisors
- Persons in day-to-day charge
- All educators (qualified and unqualified, including those studying)
- Support staff, volunteers, and students on placement
Kirsty Crozzoli, KKTC Education’s General Manager Training Delivery has been involved with Government consultation in recent weeks and will be presenting.
Highlighting the breadth of training required in the very near future Kirsty states, “If they’re directly or indirectly involved in the care and education of children, they need to complete this training,” Kirsty says. “It’s the approved provider’s responsibility to ensure everyone has completed it.”
What happens if you don’t comply?
This is not a “nice to have” – it’s a compliance requirement.
“Authorised officers will be checking compliance during assessment and rating visits,” Kirsty explains. “Without the training certificate, staff won’t be able to work in the centre. It’s a legal requirement.”
In other words:
No training certificate = no compliance = regulatory risk during your next assessment visit.

Whenever new regulations come in, services are faced with the following challenges:
- What does the rollout look like in practice?
- How do we schedule training for the whole team without disrupting the service?
- What systems do we need to prove compliance when an authorised officer arrives?
So to help with these challenges, KKTC with support from 1PlaceChildcare will be hosting a free, practical webinar to give you a clear plan — covering the people involved, the process to follow, and the evidence you’ll need on file.
