To work in a childcare centre in Australia, the minimum qualification needed is the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. This is a nationally recognised qualification that covers the basics of child development, health and safety, curriculum, and communication. It usually takes 12 to 18 months to complete and at KKTC we can get you started quickly.

However, if you want to advance your career and take on more responsibilities, such as leading a team of educators or working as an early childhood teacher, you will need higher qualifications, such as Certificate IV in School-Age Education and Care, Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, or Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood). These qualifications will equip you with more skills and knowledge in areas such as leadership, management, pedagogy, and assessment. They will also increase your employment opportunities and earning potential.
- To enrol in any of these qualifications, you will need to meet certain entry requirements, such as:
- Year 12 certificate,
- Working with Children Check
- First Aid Certificate,
- and a satisfactory level of English proficiency.
You will also need to complete practical placements in approved childcare services as part of your course.
New Training Package
Effective July 2021, both the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care underwent substantial revisions in their qualification content, encompassing changes to core and elective units. These adjustments were made to align with sector requirements and, primarily, to ensure compliance with the National Quality Framework.
Notably, the previous Diploma of Early Education and Care (CHC50113) had no entry requirements. In contrast, the updated Diploma of Early Education and Care (CHC50125) now mandates that students hold either a CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or a CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
