KKTC International Student Handbook
KKTC Education Pty Ltd · ABN 34 159 863 608 · RTO 40636 · CRICOS Provider 03515D
Version 1.2
About this handbook. This handbook is for students studying with KKTC on a Student visa (subclass 500). It explains, in plain language, how your course works and your rights and responsibilities under Australia's ESOS framework. Read it together with your Pre-Enrolment Information and your Letter of Offer and Written Agreement. Where this page and a KKTC CRICOS policy differ, the policy as approved by the CEO prevails. Any policy is available on request from international@kktc.com.au. Nothing on this page limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
KKTC does not give migration advice. For any question about your visa, contact a registered migration agent or the Department of Home Affairs (131 881 · immi.homeaffairs.gov.au).
Need help understanding this handbook? We can arrange an interpreter through TIS National (131 450) at no cost to you, and the handbook is available as a PDF or in large print on request.

2. About KKTC and the ESOS framework
KKTC Education Pty Ltd is a specialist early childhood education and care training college, registered as an RTO (40636) and as a CRICOS provider (03515D). We teach international students face to face at our Southport campus on the Gold Coast, with vocational placement in approved early learning centres in Queensland and northern New South Wales. Our learning resources are written in-house by early childhood educators.
Your protection as an international student. Australia's Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) framework — the ESOS Act 2000, the National Code 2018 and related laws — protects international students studying in Australia on a student visa. It requires KKTC to give you accurate information before you enrol, sign a written agreement with you, support you, handle complaints fairly, and protect the tuition fees you pay. Read more about the ESOS framework at education.gov.au/esos-framework.
KKTC also operates under the Standards for RTOs 2025, regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). All RTOs and the qualifications they are registered to deliver are listed at training.gov.au, and all CRICOS providers and courses at cricos.education.gov.au.
Our values
- Professionalism — we are passionate about and committed to the growth of the early childhood education and care sector.
- Team — we are committed to each other and to our students.
- Quality — what we do, we do well.
- Trust — we earn and keep the trust of our students and the services we work with.
- WOW — we aim to make every interaction a good one.
3. Your course and how it is delivered
| Course | CRICOS code | Duration | Minimum hours in a regulated service |
|---|---|---|---|
| CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care | 119627K | 38 weeks, including 2 holiday weeks | 160 |
| CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care | 118618H | 56 weeks, including 10 holiday weeks | 280 |
| Packaged Courses (CHC30125 followed by CHC50125) — offshore applicants only | 119627K and 118618H | 94 weeks in total | 160 then 280 |
The Packaged Courses are available only to applicants applying from outside Australia (offshore). If you are applying from within Australia (onshore), you enrol in the Certificate III or the Diploma separately. If you enrol in the Packaged Courses, you receive two linked Confirmations of Enrolment (CoEs) — one for each qualification — for a single visa application. You complete the Certificate III first, and completing it meets the entry requirement for the Diploma.
| Face-to-face only | Your course is delivered entirely face to face: classroom sessions at the Southport campus and vocational placement in an approved early learning centre. No part of your course is delivered online or by distance learning. |
| Your timetable | You are scheduled for at least 20 hours of study a week — classroom sessions plus two full days (7.5 hours each, excluding breaks) of placement a week for the length of your course, excluding holiday weeks. See the current timetable and intake dates; your own timetable is confirmed at orientation. |
| Rolling intake | KKTC has no fixed terms. You start on the date on your CoE and progress through your course from that date. |
| Learning platform | You use Cloud Assess to access learning materials and submit assessments. It supports your classes; it does not replace them. Your login is personal and must never be shared. |
| What you need | A laptop or tablet, a phone, an email address you check every day, and the working with children check for the state of your placement (section 15). |

4. Entry requirements
| Age | You must be 18 or over when your course starts. KKTC does not enrol students under 18. |
| English | IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band below 5.5; or PTE Academic 50 overall with no communicative skill below 42; or Cambridge English Advanced or Proficiency 169 overall with no skill below 162; or TOEFL iBT 60 overall (Reading 17, Listening 17, Speaking 20, Writing 17); or successful completion of an ELICOS course at the required level; or prior study entirely in English at an equivalent level. You must give us the unique identifier or reference number for your English test result. |
| Pre-Enrolment Skills Evaluation | Every applicant completes a document review, a short interview and a written evaluation of reading, writing, numeracy and digital skills. It shows whether the course is right for you and what support you may need (section 5). |
| Certificate III | There is no schooling requirement. Your educational history is reviewed as part of your skills evaluation. |
| Diploma | You must hold CHC30125, CHC30121 or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care; or an Australian diploma or certificate III in Children's Services plus at least 12 months' full-time-equivalent work in the last 5 years in a regulated education and care service in Australia, with verifiable evidence; or the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma skill set. If you cannot show one of these and you are applying from outside Australia, the Packaged Courses may suit you; if you are applying from within Australia, complete the Certificate III first. |
| Working with children check | Required before your placement starts — a Queensland Blue Card and/or an NSW Working with Children Check (section 15). |
5. How to apply and enrol
- Read the Pre-Enrolment Information and this handbook, and ask us anything at international@kktc.com.au.
- Apply — send the Student Application Form and your documents (passport, English test result, certified academic documents with certified translations where needed) to KKTC directly, or through a KKTC education agent. We acknowledge your application within 3 working days.
- Skills evaluation — you complete a 20–30 minute interview (video call, phone or in person) and then a written evaluation on your own, without help from anyone else. Your agent must not complete it for you or sit in the interview for you. If you need an adjustment for a disability or access need, tell us — we will talk with you about it.
- Offer — if the course is suitable, you receive a Letter of Offer and Written Agreement setting out your course, dates, fees, payment schedule and refund terms. If the course is not suitable, we tell you why in writing and what alternatives there are, and you can appeal.
- Accept — sign the Written Agreement. KKTC does not accept any payment before you sign.
- Pay — pay $1,500 directly to KKTC: the $500 enrolment fee and a $1,000 tuition deposit.
- CoE — KKTC issues your Confirmation of Enrolment, which you need for your visa application.
- Visa and arrival — apply for your Student visa (seek advice from a registered migration agent or Home Affairs), arrange Overseas Student Health Cover, and plan your arrival.
- Orientation — join us in your first week (section 11).
6. Education agents
You can apply to KKTC directly or through an education agent who has a written agreement with KKTC. The agents KKTC works with are listed on our website. KKTC remains responsible for everything an agent tells you about KKTC.
- Your agent must give you accurate, current information about KKTC, your course, fees, refunds and your rights, and must act honestly and in your interests.
- KKTC pays a commission to the education agent who recruits you. This does not change the fees you pay.
- An education agent must not give you migration advice unless they are also a registered migration agent. If they are, that advice is a separate service between you and them.
- All fees are paid directly to KKTC — agents are not authorised to collect fees for KKTC.
- You can always contact KKTC directly. If you have a concern about your agent, tell us — it is handled under our complaints process (section 21).
7. Fees and payments
| Course | Tuition — onshore | Tuition — offshore |
|---|---|---|
| CHC30125 Certificate III | $8,000 | $11,000 |
| CHC50125 Diploma | $10,000 | $13,000 |
| Packaged Courses (CHC30125 + CHC50125) | Not offered onshore | $22,500 |
All amounts are in Australian dollars. The rate that applies to you, and your full payment schedule, are confirmed in your Letter of Offer. In addition:
| Enrolment fee | $500, paid once at enrolment. It is not refunded except if KKTC defaults (section 8). |
| Tuition deposit | $1,000, paid with the enrolment fee after you sign your Letter of Offer and before your CoE is issued — $1,500 in total. |
| Payment schedule | The rest of your tuition is paid in instalments on the schedule in your Letter of Offer, by bank transfer to KKTC’s nominated account or by EFTPOS at the campus. Receipts are issued for every payment. |
| Other costs you pay yourself | Overseas Student Health Cover; your visa application; any immunisations your placement service requires; accommodation, transport and living costs. |
| What is included | Training, assessment, learning materials and your certificate. KKTC does not charge for learning materials. |
Your fees are protected. Every KKTC course is longer than 25 weeks, so KKTC will not require or accept more than 50% of your total tuition fees before your course starts unless you choose, in writing, to pay more (section 27 of the ESOS Act). Your pre-paid tuition is also protected by the Tuition Protection Service (section 9).
If a payment is late
If you are having trouble paying, contact us before the due date — a varied payment plan is almost always possible. If an instalment is unpaid:
- Within 3 business days of a missed due date — a courtesy reminder and an offer to talk about a revised payment plan.
- Days 7 and 14 — written reminders, with a personal call at day 14.
- Day 21 — a final notice giving you at least 10 business days to pay or agree a plan. Only after that, and with the CEO's approval, may KKTC suspend your learning-platform access until you pay or agree a plan; access is restored the same day either happens.
- Day 28 — if the amount is still unpaid, KKTC may issue a Notice of Intention to Cancel your enrolment. You have 20 working days to appeal, and your enrolment continues while you do (section 17).
8. Cancellations and refunds
KKTC's official refund schedule is in the CRICOS Cancellation Of Enrolment And Refund Policy, which forms part of your Written Agreement. This is a summary; if there is ever a difference, the policy applies. KKTC always pays at least the minimum refund required by the ESOS (Calculation of Refund) Instrument 2024.
If you cancel before your course starts
| When KKTC receives your written cancellation | Tuition refund | Enrolment fee |
|---|---|---|
| 10 or more weeks before your start date | 100% | Not refunded |
| 6 to less than 10 weeks before | 90% | Not refunded |
| 4 to less than 6 weeks before | 75% | Not refunded |
| 2 to less than 4 weeks before | 50% | Not refunded |
| Less than 2 weeks before | 25% | Not refunded |
| You do not start and did not tell us in writing | No refund | Not refunded |
If your enrolment ends after your course starts
KKTC has no fixed terms, so refunds are worked out week by week. KKTC keeps the $500 enrolment fee and the tuition for the weeks from your start date to the date the cancellation takes effect (the weekly rate is your total tuition divided by the length of your course in weeks), and refunds any tuition you have paid for later weeks. A $500 administrative fee is deducted from the refund, or invoiced if no refund is due.
| Course | Weekly rate — onshore | Weekly rate — offshore |
|---|---|---|
| CHC30125 Certificate III | $210.52 | $289.47 |
| CHC50125 Diploma | $178.57 | $232.14 |
| Packaged Courses | $186.17 (students who enrolled before 8 October 2026 only) | $239.36 |
Special situations
| Your visa is refused before your course starts | You receive the course fees you have paid (tuition and enrolment fee) less 5% of those fees or $500, whichever is less, within 14 days. |
| Your visa is refused after your course starts | You receive the tuition for the rest of your course from the refusal date, with no administrative fee. |
| KKTC cancels your enrolment for unsatisfactory course progress | KKTC keeps the tuition for the weeks delivered and refunds the rest. No administrative fee. |
| KKTC cancels your enrolment for misconduct or unpaid fees | The after-commencement rules above apply, including the administrative fee. |
| KKTC cannot deliver your course (provider default) | A full refund of all unused fees, including the enrolment fee, within 14 days — or a place in another course (section 9). |
| Compassionate or compelling circumstances | If you cancel because of something serious and beyond your control — such as serious illness or injury, the death of a close family member, a natural disaster or political upheaval at home, or a traumatic experience — you can apply to the CEO in writing, with evidence, to waive any amount KKTC would keep. |
How to cancel and claim a refund
- Tell KKTC in writing — the Cancellation of Enrolment Form, or an email to international@kktc.com.au saying you are cancelling. Your written notice counts as your refund claim.
- We send you a Refund Application Form to collect your bank details. Refunds are paid within 4 weeks of KKTC receiving your written claim — within 14 days for a pre-commencement visa refusal or provider default — to the person who signed the Written Agreement, unless you direct otherwise in writing.
- You receive the calculation in writing, and you can appeal it within 20 working days (section 21). A dispute about part of a refund does not delay payment of the rest.
- Before you cancel, get advice about your visa from a registered migration agent or Home Affairs.
This written agreement, and your right to make complaints and seek appeals, does not affect your right to take action under the Australian Consumer Law if it applies.
9. Tuition protection
KKTC is a member of the Tuition Protection Service (TPS) and pays the annual TPS levy. If KKTC ever cannot start or continue your course, KKTC must, within 14 days, either arrange a place for you in another course that you accept in writing, or refund your unspent tuition fees. If KKTC cannot do this, the TPS helps you find another course or get a refund.
TPS: tps.gov.au · 1300 131 798 · support@tps.gov.au. The TPS cannot help with visa matters — contact Home Affairs.
10. Your student visa
KKTC does not give migration advice. The points below are general information about what KKTC does and what your visa conditions cover. For advice about your own visa, contact a registered migration agent or the Department of Home Affairs (131 881 · immi.homeaffairs.gov.au). You can check your visa conditions at any time using VEVO.
| Course progress and attendance (condition 8202) | Your visa requires you to maintain satisfactory course progress and attendance. KKTC monitors your course progress (section 12) and records your attendance (section 13). |
| Health cover (condition 8501) | You must keep Overseas Student Health Cover for your whole stay. KKTC checks it is current before your placement starts. |
| Your address (condition 8533) | Tell KKTC and Home Affairs of any change to your address within 7 days. |
| Work (condition 8105) | Student visas limit the hours you can work while your course is in session. Check the current limit with Home Affairs. Your vocational placement is part of your course and does not count towards any work limit. |
| What KKTC reports | KKTC must report your enrolment and any changes to it — including deferral, suspension, cancellation, unsatisfactory course progress and completion — to the Australian Government through PRISMS. Home Affairs can see this information (section 26). |
11. Arriving and orientation
Every new student attends orientation in their first week. If you cannot attend, we give you the materials and an alternative session within 10 working days. Orientation covers:
- the support services available to you, and how to contact International Student Services;
- English language and study help, and legal services;
- emergency and health services, including 000, local hospitals and medical centres, and how to use your Overseas Student Health Cover;
- KKTC's 24-hour critical incident contact;
- the Southport campus and its facilities;
- course progress requirements, placement requirements and working with children checks;
- complaints and appeals;
- your employment rights, and the Fair Work Ombudsman (13 13 94 · fairwork.gov.au);
- living on the Gold Coast — transport, safety, accommodation and cost of living;
- your visa obligations (with referral to Home Affairs or a registered migration agent for any question).
After orientation you have 7 days to complete your International Orientation Form and induction module, and upload your documents, in Cloud Assess.

12. Course progress
Course progress is how KKTC — and your visa — measure how you are going. You are making satisfactory progress if, at each review point, you have been assessed as competent in at least 50% of the units scheduled for assessment by that point in your training plan.
| Course | Review points (week from your start date) |
|---|---|
| CHC30125 Certificate III | Weeks 12, 24 and 34 |
| CHC50125 Diploma | Weeks 14, 28, 40 and 50 |
- If you are at risk — not yet competent in 50% or more of the units assessed, or not attempting units you should have finished — International Student Services contacts you within 3 working days and meets with you to agree a written Intervention Strategy: extra support, tutorials, a revised plan. Your trainer can also raise a concern at any time between review points.
- If progress is still not satisfactory at the next review point after intervention, KKTC sends you an Intention to Report Notice explaining why.
- You can appeal within 20 working days (section 21). KKTC does not report you to the Australian Government while your appeal — including any complaint to the Overseas Students Ombudsman — is under way.
- Only then, if the outcome supports KKTC's decision, you don't appeal, or you withdraw your appeal, KKTC reports unsatisfactory course progress through PRISMS. This can affect your visa, so contact a registered migration agent or Home Affairs.
Your course can be extended beyond the end date on your CoE only for compassionate or compelling circumstances, as part of an intervention strategy, or because of an approved deferment or suspension.
13. Attendance
Your trainer records your attendance at every class and placement day. We use attendance to notice early when you might need help.
- Tell your trainer if you will be absent, in advance where you can, and give evidence for longer absences.
- If you are absent for more than 5 scheduled days in a row without telling us, International Student Services contacts you within 2 working days to check you are safe and whether you need support.
- Placement hours are required to complete your course, so missed placement days must be made up.
- Your visa has its own attendance condition (8202) — that is between you and Home Affairs.
14. Assessment
Every unit is assessed against the requirements of the training package by a qualified KKTC Trainer and Assessor, using knowledge questions, case studies, projects, workplace supervisor reports and observation of you working with children in your placement service.
| Outcomes | Each task is marked Satisfactory or Not Yet Satisfactory. When every task in a unit is satisfactory, the unit is recorded as Competent. |
| Feedback and resubmissions | You receive written feedback telling you exactly what to add. Feedback times and resubmission rules are the same for all KKTC students — see section 4 of the KKTC Student Handbook. There is no fee for reassessment. |
| Recording results | Your trainer records each result in Cloud Assess within 5 working days. |
| Language support | If English is making an assessment hard, talk to your trainer. We can adjust how you are assessed — for example with extra time or an oral discussion — as long as you still show the skills the unit requires. |
| If you disagree with a result | Ask your trainer to explain first. You can then appeal, and a different qualified assessor re-marks your work (section 21). |
15. Vocational placement
Placement is a compulsory part of your course. You complete it at an approved early childhood education and care service in Queensland or northern New South Wales, supervised by a qualified, permanent staff member of the service. KKTC arranges your placement and supports you throughout.
Before your first day — no exceptions. You must have: (1) a current working with children check for the state of your placement; (2) your certificate for the Australian Government's child safety training on the Geccko platform (learning.education.gov.au); (3) current Overseas Student Health Cover; and (4) completed KKTC's pre-placement briefing and signed the Placement Agreement.
| Placement in | Check | Processing | Cost to you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Queensland | Blue Card — Blue Card Services | Usually 4–6 weeks | Free for students |
| New South Wales | Working with Children Check — Office of the Children's Guardian | Usually 1–2 weeks | Free for students |
The two checks are not interchangeable — if you are placed in both states, you need both. Apply as soon as you arrive. If your check is refused, suspended or delayed, tell us straight away: you cannot start or continue placement until it is resolved, and we will talk with you about your options.
- Your logbook. Record each placement day in the digital logbook; your supervisor verifies your entries.
- Support. We check in with you on your first day and halfway through, and you can contact us at any time.
- Mandatory reporting. If you believe a child is being harmed or is at risk, tell your supervisor and report it to the state child protection line (section 22). KKTC will support you and will never stop you making a report.
- Photos and privacy. Collect photo or video evidence only with the service's permission, never keep images of children on your own devices, and never post about the service, children or families on social media.
- Insurance. KKTC holds public liability and personal accident insurance for students on placement. Your Overseas Student Health Cover pays for medical treatment first.
16. Credit transfer and recognition of prior learning
If you have already completed units of competency with another Australian RTO, KKTC grants credit transfer once we verify your certificate or USI transcript — you do not repeat those units and there is no charge. If you have skills from work or other study, you can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL): a qualified assessor assesses your evidence against the unit.
Apply before or when you enrol, using the RPL and Course Credit Application Form. If credit or RPL shortens your course, your CoE is issued for the shorter length — or, if your visa has already been granted, the change is reported in PRISMS and you should check the effect on your visa with Home Affairs. You can choose to decline an outcome and complete the full course. You can appeal any decision within 20 working days.
17. Deferring, suspending and cancelling your enrolment
If you ask to defer or suspend
You can ask to delay your start (deferment) or pause your studies (suspension) for compassionate or compelling reasons — for example serious illness or injury, the death of a close family member, a disaster or major upheaval in your home country, a traumatic experience, or a delay in receiving your visa. Complete the Deferment/Suspension Request Form with evidence. KKTC decides within 10 working days and tells you in writing; if the request is refused, you are told why and can appeal. Approved deferments and suspensions are reported in PRISMS, so check the effect on your visa with Home Affairs. Before you return, we review your training plan with you.
If KKTC proposes to suspend or cancel your enrolment
KKTC can suspend or cancel an enrolment only for misconduct, unsatisfactory course progress, or fees unpaid 28 days after the due date following the reminder process in section 7. Before it does, KKTC sends you a written Notice of Intention to Suspend or Cancel setting out the reasons, the effect on your studies and fees, your right to appeal within 20 working days, and where to get support. The suspension or cancellation does not take effect until your appeal is finished, unless your health or safety, or someone else's, is at risk.
If you want to cancel
Tell us in writing (section 8). Talk to us first — there may be a better option, such as a suspension or a change of plan — and get visa advice before you decide.
18. Transferring to another provider
Under Standard 7 of the National Code, you cannot transfer to another provider before completing the restricted transfer period of your principal course unless KKTC releases you (or another exception applies). The restricted transfer period is 12 months of your principal course from 2 October 2026 to 30 June 2027 — counted from the date your principal course started, not from 2 October — and 6 months at other times. After it, you do not need a release. If you are in the Packaged Courses, your principal course is the Diploma, so a release is needed at any time during your Certificate III and during the restricted period of your Diploma.
- To ask for a release, send the Transfer Request Form with a valid offer of enrolment from the new provider. We acknowledge it within 3 working days and decide within 10 working days.
- KKTC releases you where the transfer is in your best interests — for example if you will be reported for unsatisfactory progress even after support, if there are compassionate or compelling circumstances, if KKTC has not delivered the course as agreed, if the course is not meeting your reasonable expectations, or if you were misled about it.
- A release is free. If KKTC refuses, you are told why in writing and can appeal within 20 working days; the refusal is not finalised in PRISMS while you appeal.
- Check the effect of any transfer on your visa with Home Affairs or a registered migration agent.
19. Academic integrity and the use of AI
Everything you submit must be your own work — this protects the value of your qualification.
- Plagiarism — using someone else's words or ideas without acknowledging them.
- Collusion — presenting work produced with others as your own, without permission.
- Contract cheating — having anyone, paid or unpaid, complete an assessment for you.
- Fabrication — inventing evidence, including placement logbook entries or supervisor signatures.
- Artificial intelligence — you may use AI tools (for example ChatGPT or Gemini) only where the instructions for that assessment say you may, and only in the way they allow. Using AI to produce answers or evidence you present as your own is misconduct. Never enter information about children, families or staff from a service into an AI tool.
If there is a concern about your work, you are told what it is and given 10 working days to respond, with a support person if you wish, before any decision. Outcomes range from counselling to a Not Yet Competent result with conditions on a re-attempt; serious or repeated misconduct can lead to suspension or cancellation. You can appeal any decision.
20. Student conduct
We expect you to follow the Student Code of Conduct: treat everyone — staff, other students, supervisors, children and families — with respect; follow reasonable directions; follow your placement service's policies; be honest; and keep information about children and families confidential.
If there is a concern about your conduct:
- you are told in writing what the concern is and the evidence, at least 5 business days before any meeting, and given a reasonable opportunity to respond before any decision;
- you can bring a support person to any meeting, and interpreter help is available;
- the matter is decided by someone with no conflict of interest, and you receive the outcome and reasons in writing;
- outcomes range from a warning or a behaviour plan to suspension or cancellation for serious misconduct;
- you can appeal within 20 working days, and a suspension or cancellation does not take effect during your appeal unless someone's safety is at risk.
21. Complaints and appeals
You can complain about KKTC, its staff, an education agent, a placement service or anyone acting for KKTC, and appeal any decision that affects you. It is free, confidential, and you will never be disadvantaged for raising a concern.
- Talk to us first (optional). International Student Services will try to sort it out within 5 working days. You can skip this step and go straight to a formal complaint.
- Lodge a formal complaint or appeal — the Formal Complaint/Appeal Form, an email to admin@kktc.com.au or international@kktc.com.au, or tell us and we will write it down. Appeals are lodged within 20 working days of receiving the written decision; late appeals are accepted for a fair reason.
- What happens next. We acknowledge it within 3 working days and start assessing it within 10 working days. It is decided by someone not involved in the matter, and you can present your case with a support person and an interpreter. We aim to finish within 20 working days; if it will take longer, we tell you why in writing and update you at least every two weeks. You receive the outcome and detailed reasons in writing.
- Your enrolment continues. While your complaint or appeal is under way — including any complaint to the Ombudsman — you keep studying and attending placement, and KKTC does not report you in PRISMS, unless someone's health or safety is at risk.
- If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Overseas Students Ombudsman at no cost. KKTC tells you how in your outcome letter. You can also ask KKTC to arrange an independent external review, at KKTC's cost.
If the outcome is in your favour, KKTC acts on it immediately and tells you in writing what it has done.

23. Critical incidents and your safety
A critical incident is a traumatic event — such as a serious injury or illness, an assault, a death, a missing person, or a disaster or crisis at home — that causes extreme stress, fear or injury. KKTC has a 24-hour contact so that you, your family, your placement service or anyone else can reach us at any time.
In an emergency: call 000 first if anyone is in danger. Then call KKTC's 24-hour critical incident line on 0432 900 463. If there is no answer within 5 minutes, call 0422 124 625.
- If we are worried about you — for example you have been absent without explanation or are not answering us — we will try to contact you by email, phone and text, then your emergency contact, your agent or classmates. Please keep your contact details and emergency contact current.
- In a serious incident we may contact your emergency contact, your country's embassy or consulate, or the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and we share information only with those who need it.
- KKTC does not tolerate harassment, bullying or discrimination. Tell your trainer, International Student Services or the CEO.
- Report any injury or incident on placement to your supervisor and to us on the same day.
24. Living on the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast is Australia's sixth-largest city, with a subtropical climate, beaches and national parks. Southport is the city's business centre, with light rail (G:link), buses, shops, a hospital and services close to our campus.
| Cost of living | For a student visa, Home Affairs currently sets a minimum of AUD 29,710 a year for a student's own living costs, not including tuition or travel. Check the current figure at immi.homeaffairs.gov.au, and use the Study Australia cost of living calculator to plan your budget. |
| Accommodation | KKTC does not provide accommodation, but we can refer you to reputable services. Indicative weekly costs: homestay $300–$450 (room, most meals and bills); a room in a shared house $200–$350 (bills usually extra; bond usually four weeks’ rent); purpose-built student accommodation $250–$500 (bills included); a studio or one-bedroom apartment $400–$550; and hostels or budget hotels $30–$80 a night while you look. Study Gold Coast publishes listings and runs a free student support service. Never pay a bond or rent before seeing the place or signing a written agreement. Bonds for Queensland rentals must be lodged with the Residential Tenancies Authority (rta.qld.gov.au), which also helps with tenancy problems. |
| Transport | Translink runs the G:link light rail, buses and trains to Brisbane. A go card gives cheaper fares (translink.com.au). Plan how you will reach your placement service before it starts. |
| Health | Your Overseas Student Health Cover pays towards GP visits and hospital care. Carry your OSHC card and learn how to claim. |
| Working | Everyone working in Australia has the same workplace rights, including minimum pay. The Fair Work Ombudsman can help (13 13 94). Check your visa's work limit with Home Affairs. |
| Staying safe | Swim between the red and yellow flags, protect yourself from the sun, keep your valuables secure, and save 000 and KKTC's 24-hour number in your phone. |
25. Completing your course
You complete your course when every unit is Competent and your placement hours are verified. KKTC then:
- issues your Testamur and Record of Results within 30 calendar days, once all agreed fees are paid and we hold your verified Unique Student Identifier (USI) — create your USI free at usi.gov.au; it is never printed on your certificate;
- reports your completion in PRISMS;
- writes to you confirming your completion date — and advises you to contact Home Affairs about what completion means for your visa;
- tells you about further study, including the Diploma if you have completed the Certificate III.
If you leave before finishing, you receive a Statement of Attainment for the units you completed. Your certificate carries your legal name exactly as on your passport and enrolment, so tell us before you finish if it needs correcting. A printed or replacement certificate costs $10 (free if the error was ours).
University pathways (information only)
Southern Cross University and Griffith University recognise the CHC50125 Diploma towards some of their degrees. Credit is decided by the university and subject to its entry and English requirements — see section 29 of the KKTC Student Handbook for the current arrangements.

International Students Enquire Now26. Your information and privacy
KKTC collects your personal information — identity, contact, passport and visa details, education and English records, course progress and fee records — to enrol you, deliver your course and meet the law. KKTC handles it under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Privacy And Personal Information Policy.
- Information KKTC must share. KKTC must report your enrolment, any changes to it, course progress and completion through PRISMS (section 19 of the ESOS Act). PRISMS information is shared with the Department of Education, the Department of Home Affairs, ASQA and the Tuition Protection Service. If requested, KKTC must also give the Department of Education details of any commission paid to your education agent (section 21B). These disclosures are required by law and you cannot opt out of them while you are enrolled.
- Other sharing. Your placement service receives only what it needs for your placement. Your agent receives only what its role requires — never your fee balances, results or full records. In a serious incident we may contact your emergency contact, embassy or consulate.
- National VET data. Like all RTOs, KKTC reports your training to the National Centre for Vocational Education Research. The full VET Data Privacy Notice is in section 30 of the KKTC Student Handbook.
- Your rights. You can ask for a copy of your information or ask us to correct it by emailing international@kktc.com.au. We acknowledge your request within 3 working days and respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with how we handle your information, you can complain to KKTC and then to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
- Your image. KKTC uses your photo, name or story only with your separate written consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
