About the Career Boost Apprenticeship
The Career Boost Apprenticeship is a Queensland Government subsidised, employment-based training pathway for educators progressing in their early childhood career. As a trainee, you are employed by an early childhood service under a Training Contract registered under the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (Qld). You continue to earn a wage while you upskill — gaining higher-level skills alongside formal training and assessment.
KKTC Education Pty Ltd (RTO 40636) delivers your training and assessment as your Supervising RTO. Your employer provides on-the-job training and supervision.
On successful completion, you will be awarded the CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF Level 5). The Diploma prepares you to design and implement curriculum, lead educators, manage programs, and ensure compliance with the National Quality Framework in early childhood services.
Eligibility
Eligibility for funded traineeships is determined by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training (DTET), not by KKTC. To check eligibility and sign up to a traineeship, contact an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (ACAP) at www.apprenticeships.gov.au or 1800 210 210.
To access subsidised training under the Career Boost Apprenticeship, you must:
- Be employed (or about to be employed) as a Queensland apprentice under a Training Contract registered with DTET, in CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care as listed on the Queensland Subsidised Training List
- Not be a school student
- Not be currently enrolled in another qualification funded by the Queensland Government (Department of Trade, Employment and Training) — including one that is on hold or deferred
- Not have completed two government-funded apprenticeships or traineeships (including school-based) within the last 10 years — qualifications funded under a Skilling Queenslanders for Work program do not count
If you are from overseas you must hold a visa that allows you to work in Australia, because a Training Contract is an employment contract.
Holding a Certificate IV or higher qualification does not prevent you from accessing this apprenticeship pathway. (It does affect eligibility for Career Boost General — see that page.)
Course entry requirements.
The CHC50125 Diploma has training-package entry requirements. To enrol you must meet one of the following:
- Hold a CHC30125, CHC30121 or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care; OR
- Children’s Services + 12 months experience route; OR
- CHCSS00147 skill set route
Proof of your entry pathway is required at enrolment.
One subsidised higher-level qualification is available per individual under Career Boost. Final eligibility is confirmed by DTET when your Training Contract is registered.
Enrolment Process
Career Boost provides Queenslanders with skills and support to start their career.
PROCESS:
- Sign up with an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (ACAP). ACAPs are federally funded providers who help trainees and employers register Training Contracts with DTET. They will assist you to nominate KKTC Education as your Supervising RTO.
- DTET registers your Training Contract under the Further Education and Training Act 2014 (Qld). KKTC will be notified once your contract is registered.
- KKTC conducts a Pre-Enrolment Assessment (PEA) with you. This is a mandatory conversation to confirm eligibility, suitability for the qualification, and any learning support needs. KKTC will also conduct an Apprenticeships / All Students Info – Self Service (AISS) check.
- KKTC conducts an Employer Resource Assessment (ERA) with your employer. This confirms your workplace can provide adequate facilities, range of work, supervision, and on-the-job training as required by the FET Act 2014.
- Training Plan developed. KKTC develops your Training Plan in consultation with you and your employer. This forms part of your Training Contract.
- Documentation submitted and first instalment paid (if applicable — see fees section).
- Training commences.
Co-contribution Fee
Co-contribution fees for traineeships are set by DTET at $1.60 per nominal hour for each unit of competency. This rate is fixed across all Skills Assure Suppliers in Queensland.
Free Apprenticeships and Traineeships for under 25s
If you are under 25 years of age at the time you sign your Training Contract, your training is fee-free under the Queensland Government’s Free Apprenticeships for under 25s initiative. You do not pay a co-contribution fee. The instalment structure below does not apply.
Trainees aged 25 and over
Fee category | Total fee |
Non-concessional co-contribution fee | $2,220.80 |
Concessional co-contribution fee (40% partial exemption) | $888.32 |
Total fees are calculated based on the nominal hours specified in the training package at $1.60 per hour.
Concessional eligibility (40% partial exemption)
If you are 25 or over and any of the following applies to you at enrolment, you pay 40% of the co-contribution fee:
- You are, or will be, under 17 years of age at the end of February in the year KKTC provides training, and you are not at school and have not completed Year 12
- You hold a Health Care, Veteran or Pensioner Concession Card issued under Commonwealth law, or you are the partner or dependant of a card holder and are named on the card
- You hold an official form issued under Commonwealth law confirming that you, your partner, or the person you are a dependant of, is entitled to those concessions
- You identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
Evidence of concessional status must be supplied at enrolment.
Fee waiver in cases of extreme financial hardship. Where paying the fee would cause you extreme financial hardship, KKTC may waive the co-contribution fee. Ask KKTC Student Services about the fee waiver process at enrolment. If a waiver request is declined, you can appeal the decision through KKTC’s complaints and appeals process.
How and when fees are charged
KKTC offers flexible payment arrangements for traineeship co-contribution fees, depending on whether the fee is paid by you, your employer, or shared between both parties. Specific instalment dates and amounts are confirmed in your individual payment plan at enrolment.
Who pays | Standard payment plan | How it works |
Student pays | 10 instalments | Equal instalments across the duration of your course. Specific dates are confirmed in your individual payment plan at enrolment. |

Refund Policy
Refund Policy
If you are under 25 and fee-free under Free Apprenticeships for Under 25s, no co-contribution fee is charged, so refund provisions do not apply. If you pay a co-contribution fee:
Refund of fees paid | Circumstances |
Full refund | You withdraw, or your Training Contract is cancelled, at any time before your training commences; KKTC withdraws the course; or KKTC is unable to provide the course you enrolled in |
Refund of unused unit fees | You withdraw, or your Training Contract is cancelled, after training has commenced: the co-contribution fee for every unit of competency you have not yet commenced is refunded |
No refund | Fees for units of competency you have already commenced |
Refunds are calculated per unit of competency and are paid to whoever paid the fee (you or your employer). Credit transfers granted after enrolment are also refunded on a per-unit basis. Refunds are processed within 30 days of KKTC receiving written notice. Any additional charge paid by your employer beyond the co-contribution fee is refunded for services not delivered. The complete KKTC Refund Policy is set out in the Student Handbook (kktc.com.au/student-handbook).
Refund of unused co-contribution fees*
Where you have paid fees for units of competency that you have not yet commenced or been assessed in, you are entitled to a refund of those unused fees on withdrawal. Refunds are calculated on a per-unit basis: the co-contribution fee for each unit not yet commenced will be refunded to you. Fees for units that have been commenced are non-refundable. Credit transfers granted after enrolment are also refundable on a per-unit basis. Refunds are processed within 30 days of KKTC receiving your written withdrawal notice and are paid to the original payer. To request a refund, contact KKTC on 1300 048 133 or info@kktc.com.au.
Training Contract cancellation
If your Training Contract is cancelled or withdrawn in DELTA (DTET’s training database), KKTC will cease delivery and the refund provisions above apply. KKTC will report the cancellation to DTET as required.
