Fee For Service NSW
Self-paid study in early childhood education and care
This page is for students who study with KKTC in NSW outside the NSW Smart and Skilled program. Fee-for-Service is a commercial arrangement — your training is not government-subsidised, and you (or your employer) pay the full course cost directly to KKTC.
KKTC offers Fee-for-Service enrolment for both:
- CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
- CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
Who can study with KKTC under Fee-for-Service?
Common Fee-for-Service students include:
- Students who don't meet NSW Smart and Skilled eligibility — for example, not living or working in NSW, or not holding eligible citizenship or visa status
- Existing Worker Trainees — students with an approved NSW Training Contract who, because they were already employed by their current employer for more than the new-entrant thresholds, are not eligible for Smart and Skilled subsidy
- Anyone who chooses to self-fund their training rather than apply for Smart and Skilled subsidy
To enrol Fee-for-Service with KKTC, you’ll need to:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have the right to live and work in Australia (Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or eligible visa holder)
- Hold (or be applying for) a Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- Hold a current NSW Working with Children Check before any work placement starts
What's included in your training
Both qualifications are delivered using the same KKTC training model regardless of your funding pathway:
- 18-month nominal course duration (faster if you have prior learning to recognise)
- CHC30125 Certificate III — 17 units (15 core + 2 electives)
- CHC50125 Diploma — 15 units
- Online and blended learning, supported by qualified KKTC trainers and assessors
- Mandatory work placement: 160 hours for Cert III, 280 hours for Diploma. KKTC supports placement arrangements and may extend placement hours to support workplace integration.
- Pre-Training Review and Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment at enrolment, so the qualification fits your goals and any support needs are identified up front
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) available — talk to us if you have relevant prior study or experience
- Cloud Assess student portal for accessing course materials, submitting assessments, and tracking progress
- KKTC Domestic Student Handbook and full policy access before you commence
What you'll pay
KKTC’s Fee-for-Service rates for NSW students:
If you are… | CHC30125 Cert III | CHC50125 Diploma |
A standard Fee-for-Service student (not on a Training Contract) | $265/unit $4,505 total (17 units) | $333/unit $4,995 total (15 units) |
An Existing Worker Trainee with KKTC as your RTO | $235/unit $3,995 total (17 units) | $275/unit $4,125 total (15 units) |
Payment plans
KKTC offers two payment plans, depending on whether you or your centre is paying for the course.
Student plan — 10 monthly direct-debit payments
For students paying their own course fees. The total course cost is broken into 10 equal monthly direct-debit instalments. Talk to us about start date and direct-debit arrangements that suit you.
Employer plan — 30/30/40 milestone payments
For centres paying course fees on behalf of an Existing Worker Trainee or other staff member. The total course cost is split into three milestone-based payments:
- 30% — first payment, due 3 months after enrolment
- 30% — second payment, due at an agreed midpoint of the course
- 40% — final payment, due on completion of training
KKTC provides a written payment schedule with specific due dates to the centre at enrolment. The 30/30/40 employer plan is only available when a centre is paying for the course on behalf of a student. If you’re a centre exploring this option, contact KKTC.
Fee protection
Your fees are protected under the Australian Skills Quality Authority’s (ASQA) fee protection requirements. Under both KKTC payment plans, no single instalment exceeds the $1,500 ASQA prepayment threshold, so your fees are protected throughout your training. If you wish to pay your course fees upfront, please discuss this with us — KKTC has arrangements in place to comply with ASQA’s fee protection requirements.
This is not government-subsidised training
Fee-for-Service training sits outside the NSW Smart and Skilled program. If you’d like to check whether you might be eligible for Smart and Skilled subsidy, see KKTC’s NSW Smart and Skilled page or use the official NSW Government eligibility checker at https://www.nsw.gov.au/education-and-training/vocational/funding.
Reasonable adjustments and student support
KKTC supports all students to succeed and applies a generalised approach to support — you don’t need to disclose a specific status to access help. Where you do have specific needs, we’ll work with you on what’s possible.
Available support includes:
- LLND support and Pre-Training Review at enrolment
- Reasonable adjustments to training and assessment for students with disability, in line with the Disability Standards for Education 2005
- Cultural support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students
- Support for students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including interpreter access on request
- Help with workplace and placement adjustments where needed
- Mentoring and assistance balancing training with work and family
If you’d like to discuss your support needs before enrolling, contact us.
How to enrol
The enrolment process for Fee-for-Service is:
- Enquire — talk to KKTC about which qualification suits you
- Pre-Training Review and LLND — a short assessment to confirm the qualification matches your goals and identify any support needs
- Submit your enrolment — complete the online enrolment form and supply your documentation (see below)
- Identity and eligibility check — KKTC verifies your USI, citizenship/residency, and other requirements
- Schedule of Fees and Charges — KKTC provides written confirmation of your fees, payment plan options, and the refund terms before you pay anything
- Pay or set up your payment plan — choose upfront payment, the 10-month student direct-debit plan, or the 30/30/40 employer milestone plan if a centre is paying
- Start training — KKTC issues access to your training materials and your trainer makes contact
Working with Children Check
You’ll need a cleared NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) before any work placement starts. The “No Card, No Start” rule applies in NSW — your placement service cannot accept you, and KKTC cannot assess workplace tasks, until you hold a valid check.
Apply at https://wwccheck.ocg.nsw.gov.au/Apply. Students on professional placement do not pay the WWCC fee.
Documentation we'll need
You’ll need to provide:
- Photo identification — driver's licence, passport, or other government-issued photo ID
- Proof of citizenship or residency status — Australian birth certificate, citizenship certificate, passport, Green Medicare Card, or VEVO check for permanent residents
- Proof of address — utility bill, bank statement, lease agreement, or driver's licence with current address
- NSW Working with Children Check (or evidence of application — see below)
- Unique Student Identifier (USI) — KKTC can help you create one if you don't have one
- Transcripts or evidence of prior qualifications relevant to Credit Transfer or RPL applications
Refund policy
KKTC’s Fee-for-Service refund policy is set out below. The full policy is available at the link further down this page.
If a refund is owed under any of the clauses below, it will be paid back to whoever made the original payment. For self-paying students, refunds are returned to the student’s nominated bank account. For courses paid by a centre on behalf of a student, refunds are returned to the centre.
Withdrawal before training commences
If you withdraw at any time after the cooling-off period but before your training begins, you will receive a full refund of all fees paid.
Withdrawal during training
If you withdraw after training has commenced, your refund is calculated as the fees you have paid minus the per-unit fee for any units you have commenced or completed.
A unit is considered “commenced” when you have accessed the unit’s learning materials or received any training for that unit.
Compassionate or compelling circumstances
If you withdraw because of compassionate or compelling circumstances — generally those beyond your control that have an impact on your course progress or wellbeing — KKTC may apply a more generous refund calculation than the schedule above.
Compassionate or compelling circumstances include but are not limited to:
- Serious illness or injury, supported by a medical certificate
- Bereavement of a close family member (e.g., parent, grandparent, spouse, sibling, child), supported by a death certificate where possible
- Major political upheaval or natural disaster requiring emergency travel that has impacted your studies
- A traumatic experience, including involvement in or witnessing of a serious accident or crime, supported by police or psychologist's reports
- Where KKTC is unable to offer a pre-requisite unit
- Other circumstances at KKTC's discretion
To apply, contact KKTC with supporting documentation. KKTC will respond to refund applications within 14 days.
Refund where KKTC cannot deliver the training
If KKTC is unable to complete training you have enrolled in — for example, KKTC closes, loses approval to deliver the qualification, or withdraws the course — you will receive a full refund of fees paid for any unit not yet commenced or completed, plus assistance to transfer to another provider where possible.
Refund following Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer
If you are granted RPL or Credit Transfer that reduces your training scope after enrolment, your fee will be recalculated and any over-payment refunded.
How to request a refund
Refund applications must be made in writing to info@kktc.com.au. KKTC will respond to refund applications within 14 days.
Recovery of outstanding fees
Where you withdraw or discontinue with outstanding fees owed for units commenced or completed, KKTC reserves the right to pursue recovery in line with KKTC’s debt recovery process.
